We begin the new year with a puzzle to tempt you. The first PF was not solved, and was thereafter both lauded and criticized for its design (see below). This time, we are a little more deliberate, more designed, more clever – which we fear will also make it more simply.
In any event, here are three clues to confuse you. More clues coming, unless of course, someone actually solves it first…
As for setting the Puzzle into its blog-historical context, this is the second in a series. The first began in Summer 2006, in this post, spawned all sorts of conjecture, and it ended in early Fall 2006, with this answer. Now, as the New Year dawns, so does the new PF. Be well.
“That picture is a complete mess, there’s no structure to it at all, that’s why no one got it.”
“it’s almost like a microcosm of the whole scientific query process”
“I think the puzzle was a lot of fun because it got people thinking, straining, making cognitive leaps.”
“I feel cheated by the solution.”
“Can’t wait to see the next one!”
